Open Up Space for Something Wonderful

I love this passage from Henri Nowen.

In the spiritual life, the word ‘discipline’ means ‘the effort to create some space in which God can act’.

Discipline means to prevent everything in your life from being filled up.

Discipline means that somewhere you’re not occupied, and certainly not preoccupied.

In the spiritual life, to create that space in which something can happen that you hadn’t planned or counted on.”

Open Up Space for Something Wonderful

Just as beautiful flowers cannot grow in a bed of weeds, our New Year’s resolutions need a space to thrive.  Consider spending dedicated time this weekend bringing 2011 to a close so your new intentions don’t get buried with the clutter of life.  Reconcile the bank statements, clean out the hodgepodge, scan or shred documents, donate clothes that no longer fit, and give yourself permission to give away the unread stack of books on the nightstand.  Open up space where something wonderful can “happen.”
